This blog will follow the experiences of Centre d’Abri des Victimes du Seisme, a camp for internally displaced peoples in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Centre d’Abri des Victimes du Seisme (CAVS) was founded by Jules Woodly, a teacher, journalist, and ex-helicopter pilot who used his own funds to open a camp immediately after the Jan 12 earthquake. He transported displaced families living on streets to a safe, clean area of Tabarre and provided them with tents, food, water, and emergency medical care. Although his own funds have long since run out, the camp continues to grow. Most recently, a school has opened on camp grounds – one of very few camp schools in Port-au-Prince.
